From school gates to business networks, WhatsApp groups to friendship groups, padel seems to have become the sport bringing people together.
Last Friday, we harnessed that community spirit for something even bigger than sport as we host Camp Simcha’s first-ever Padel Tournament.
What makes padel so special isn’t just the game itself. It’s the connections it seems to be creating. Both accessible and sociable padel is bringing together people who might never otherwise meet. Increasingly, those communities are also becoming a force for good, using the sport’s popularity to support causes that matter and make a real difference.
Our tournament was held in support of Camp Simcha’s Care Necessities Project, which provides practical care packages for families newly admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital for cancer treatment. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, families are often thrown into a world of uncertainty overnight. These care packages offer practical support at a moment when an initiative like this can make a huge difference.
Care Necessities is the brainchild of Camp Simcha alumna parent Charlie van Emden, whose personal experience with her son Samuel inspired this simple but powerful idea.
Together with Nicole Braude, they have worked tirelessly to make this inaugural padel event a reality and we are so grateful.
We loved welcoming some familiar faces, alongside new supporters, on Friday. None of this would be possible without the generosity of our sponsors. Their support has helped transform an idea into an event that will raise vital funds for this hugely impactful project.
Thank you to everyone who has signed up, sponsored and supported. It was great to see the full courts and friendly competition.
Because when people come together, whether through sport or shared purpose, extraordinary things can happen.
