Parents

Caring for a seriously ill child takes a huge toll on the whole family and especially parents

Throughout the year we offer a programme of events for parents to provide an outlet for the stress and some respite from the constant worry.

Events for Parents

When you are the parent of a child with a serious illness it can feel almost impossible to get a break or a moment to switch off, although you probably need it more than most. Our parents’ events bring respite and a vital opportunity for mums and dads to spend time with others who truly understand their daily challenges – and the isolation that comes with having a seriously ill child.

We run our bespoke events in London and Manchester, from art classes to coffee mornings to paint-balling and flight simulator experiences – enabling parents to access peer support in a relaxed, enjoyable environment.

We are grateful to the National Lottery for their generous support towards this programme.

Mums’ Spa Day is a highlight event giving mums an opportunity to enjoy treatments, companionship and delicious food in a beautiful, relaxing environment.

“I have a very stressful life but I could not believe what I was walking into. I never imagined that the Spa Day would be like this, the amount of care and attention to detail, the food, the flowers, the candles and all the treatments. For one day I felt like a very important person, I felt so overwhelmed.  It’s the personal touch that is so special and that sums up Camp Simcha.”

Support Groups for Parents

We run support groups for parents with children who have various conditions such as Type 1 Diabetes and Crohn’s, in partnership with JDigest.

“With Type 1 Diabetes we find that the same issues and questions arise – from brands of pumps to the impact of hormone changes, to things like how travel affects their levels. As well as regular meetings, the families have a Whatsapp group which is a great way for parents to constantly connect with each other.”  Head of Family Liaison, Rachely Plancey

From the minute Camp Simcha came into our lives we didn’t feel alone any more. Not only did we have an amazing FLO, who I could just talk to whenever I needed, but it also enabled us to meet other parents in the same situation. Now I feel there are so many people I can turn to. You can have a situation where you don’t know what to do, but with the support group, other parents will.
