Food and household support

Food and household support bannerIt’s often the things we all take for granted that weigh so heavily for parents coping with a sick child.

Our Family Liason Officers can arrange cleaning help or a hot meal which can make a huge difference and take the strain away from the family.

‘If we have had a significant stay at hospital and exhaustion has kicked in, our FLO will organise some food, making our first evening home more bearable. Although this appears a small gesture on paper, it means so much to us as a family that Camp Simcha is able to provide that little bit of respite at the end of a difficult few days. It’s just a relief when someone else takes the pressure off or does the practical stuff for you.’

We can also arrange a meeting with our benefits advisor who gives advice and support. This cuts through the red tape to help parents access the benefits that they are entitled to.

“In my life, I have always been able to solve problems. I have climbed mountains at work and been very successful. When the doctor told us that my child may not live, no matter how many second opinions we got, the best doctors we could possibly find – I had to come to terms with the fact that, at the end of the day my beautiful 3 year old daughter’s life was in other people’s hands – I cannot tell you how stressful that was for me. Camp Simcha helped me cope with that pain like nobody else could.”
