Become A Medical Clown
Medical clowns are volunteers who visit hospital wards and are trained to help patients laugh in order to help them heal. Using their creativity and good heartedness, the clowns juggle, make balloon animals, do origami, spin plates and will stand on their heads, if necessary, to put a smile on the faces of those who are ill.
Camp Simchas medical clown project is part of a global movement to help the healing process through laughter, compassion, and joy. Initiated by Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, and made famous by a film about him, medical clowns volunteer in hospitals around the world.
Researchers say that children laugh about 500 times a day, while the average adult laughs only 15 times a day. An array of laughter studies have shown that laughing releases endorphins, can relieve allergy and arthritis symptoms, increases memory retention and creativity, lessens pain from chronic diseases, and strengthens the immune system.
