Big Brother & Sister Volunteers
The Alexander Rosensweig, and Henry Ewig Big Brother & Sister Volunteer Programme
Giving special moments to very special children
Camp Simcha Big Brothers and Sisters provide a special support for the children in hospital and when they return home after treatment. They are there primarily to bring fun and laughter into the world of the child who is sick and/or any siblings. This often has the added advantage of providing some respite for parents.
Big Brothers and Sisters arrange special treats, take the kids out for Pizza, or just make sure to bring a favourite game to play. In the life of a child with a serious illness, his or her Big Brother/Sister may be one of many adults that they have to contend with, but the only one who is there just to bring fun and laughter.
Big Brother & Sister volunteers also bring their children to Camp Simcha events such as special parties and outings. They are also one of the most important ingredients of a family retreat.
As a Big Brother or Sister you become a member of the family, sharing good times and bad. What ever happens though, the relationships that are formed become life long. There are Big Brother and Sisters who now have children of their own, but they count their Camp Simcha family as their own and visa versa.
Last, but by no means least, many Big Brothers and Sisters get to accompany their kids to Camp in the Catskill Mountains USA for 2 weeks in the Summer. Camp Simcha is a unique, medically equipped camp where the children enter a wonderland of activity and excitement. As a counselor you play a crucial role in ensuring that your child has the time of his life, and in doing so, you do too.
For those who understand and want to experience the joy of giving to another person, there can be no greater opportunity than becoming a Big Brother or Sister Volunteer.
